The Alzheimer’s Association is hosting four events Jan. 8-9 at the Regency at Hualalai in Kona.
At 6 p.m. Jan. 8, program specialist Chris Ridley will present “What Is Dementia?” This seminar will include the latest information about the warning signs of dementia. Information about dementia, stages, symptoms and treatments will be provided.
There will be three presentations Jan. 9, beginning at 9 a.m. when Ridley presents “Legal Affairs and Dementia.” This presentation will discuss dementia and potential legal needs, legal capacity, advance health care directives, financial planning and organizing legal financial affairs.
At 11 a.m., Ridley will show the movie “Still Alice,” starring Julianne Moore as Alice Howland, happily married with three grown children and a renowned linguistics professor who starts to forget words. When she receives a diagnosis of early-onset Alzheimer’s disease, Howland and her family find their bonds thoroughly tested. Her struggle to stay connected to who she once was is frightening, heartbreaking and inspiring.
Then at 1 p.m., Ridley will present “Communication and Behaviors in Dementia,” which includes information about why behaviors occur and possible interventions.
